After weeks and weeks of planning…
And dirndl hunting…
I am SO EXCITED to share that, in a few short weeks, I, along with Felix, will be traveling to…
WE’RE GOING TO GERMANY AND IRELAND, Y’ALL!!!!!!!!
I am thrilled beyond belief! To visit not one, but two countries that I have wanted to visit for forever and a decade in one trip? And to think it’s where my feisty ancestors hailed from makes it that much more exciting.
I can’t even imagine.
New land to explore. New people to meet. New everything.
Felix and I leave Washington, D.C. at the end of September to embark on our ~two week trip! We have a layover in both Boston and Paris, where we’ll have some time to explore (!!!) before shipping off to Munich just in time for Oktoberfest!
Bring on the dirndls, lederhosen, and hefeweizen! My dirndl came in the mail yesterday, and I am super excited to wear it. Thanks to my friend Maria for giving me tips on what to buy!
Another perk? A couple friends we have in the area will be meeting up with us, which is just so exciting!
After a few days at Oktoberfest, Felix and I be visiting Neuschwanstein Castle, which Disney’s Sleeping Beauty castle is modeled after!
From there, we head to the airport and fly to Dublin where we’ll rent a car and spend seven days and nights driving the perimeter of Ireland and exploring areas such as the Dingle peninsula, the Ring of Kerry, the Cliffs of Moher, and more! We even have some hiking and kayaking planned! Of course, in true Irish fashion, I will be enjoying a Guinness from the factory in Dublin and pleeeeenty of live music, I assure ye.
Sidebar: I secretly hope that while we’re driving the narrow, winding paths of Ireland’s countryside, we have to stop so a bunch of sheep can cross the road. I love fluffy animals so much, that I am sure I would just weep as I watched them live their lives totally unfazed by our itinerary.
For kicks, here are some Irish sayings and phrases I “need to learn before I visit.” Not sure how lucrative they are, but they’re sure fun.
I have been wanting to travel to Germany and Ireland ever since I can remember. I have just never pulled the plug to do it. A few weeks ago, Felix and I were sitting in the living room and started fantasizing about how cool it would be to clank together liters of beer in Germany and drive around Ireland (something he’s always wanted to do), stay in small town Airbnbs, and just enjoy the country at a semi-leisurely pace. A few days later, we said WHY NOT, purchased our plane tickets and began the planning process.
We still have quite a bit to do before we leave, like last-minute purchases of waterproof boots, turtlenecks, and comfortable hiking clothing, because it can apparently be cool and damp in Ireland this time of year.
I also need to practice my German so I can
get free beer at Oktoberfest fit in.
So far, it’s coming along nicely thanks to Duolingo!
I’ll pop back in here and there with planning updates, and hopefully will be able to check in while we’re in Europe, even if it’s just through my Instagram!
In the meantime, if any of my readers in Germany or Ireland have any recommendations for me during my time there, please feel free to comment in my comments section or connect with me on social media!
Happy Friday, everyone! Make it a good one.
